Jeffrey Dean Morgan has assured fans that no dogs were harmed in the latest episode of The Walking Dead.

The Negan actor was seen being chased by a pack of rabid dogs this week, as he made his bid for freedom from Alexandria.

However, a rogue walker proved to be Negan’s lifeline, and he threw the zombie in their direction.

Leaving them to fight and feast, the last we heard were growls and screeches coming from a door Negan was holding shut – presumably from dogs in pain or who had been bitten.

But on Talking Dead, when a worried animal loving fan made a note of it, fellow animal lover Jeffrey insisted he made sure that no animals were harmed.

He explained: ‘It had nothing to do with being evil, I think I opened the door and there’s a friggin’ walker right there trying to bite my face off!

‘No dogs were harmed during the making of The Walking Dead.’

On top of that, he revealed that they got a ‘stunt adjustment’ to ensure it was the cast.

‘Come on, now, look who you’re asking that question to. No one loves a dog more than me,’ he added.

The Walking Dead airs Sundays on AMC in the US and Mondays on Fox in the UK.
